Animations
Animations over time of
historical and future climate, biomass accumulation,
and vegetation indices.

Climate Animations*
These
animations run through 130 years of historical climate
(temperature or precipitation) and 100 years of climate
predicted by a high CO2
emission scenario (A2).
Anomaly animations show the departure from the
average climate over the period 1970-1999. So, a positive
anomaly value indicates that the observed climate was
warmer/wetter than the average climate from 1970-1999, while
a negative anomaly indicates that the observed temperature
was cooler/drier than the average climate from 1970-1999.
Biomass Accumulation
Animation*
This
animation runs through 200 years of potential biomass
accumulation, predicted across the globe by a simple model
using either historical or future temperature and
precipitation. It also graphically displays the biomass
accumulation for 5 North American biomes.

NDVI animation
This animation
shows global monthly NDVI (Normalized Difference
Vegetation Index, a measure of the 'greenness' of an
area) measured by the MODIS (MODerate-resolution Imaging
Spectroradiometer) satellite for 2000 to 2011.
Average NDVI for the northern and southern hemispheres
is displayed on the graph below.**

Post Animation
This
animation shows 4 years of picture post imagery, as well
as a corresponding calculated greenness index and
satellite data.
Satellite data are from the MODIS
(MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)
satellite, and include the Normalized Difference
Vegetation Index (NDVI, measures 'greenness') and
albedo***.
